My New Artist Statement

Inspired by night-time, Cheyenne creates most of her work under the guidance of the moon. Fascinated by night-time’s uncloaking of the inner self, she looks for human moments that transcend gendered and racial identities. Personas seen at night, whether inside or outside, can provide meditations on the parts of the self that stay hidden throughout the day - parts that may rather be forgotten. Inspired first and foremost by color, Cheyenne draws inspiration from the more saturated palettes and man-made lights of night-time. She savors moments of our darker and more somber selves and presents them as characters. Ones that only come out to play when the moon comes up. By isolating these moments, she finds these characters come to live in a time-space similar to that of our dreams - somewhere dark enough not to look but light enough to see.
